Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 2, 2007, 6:12 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, July 8, 1982 John William McClure, 77, a lifetime resident of Maupin, died Tuesday at the local hospital. He was born July 29, 1904 in Maupin. Mr. McClure was a truck driver in Montana for a construction company and then a farm mechanic in Maupin. During World War II, he worked on the grain elevators in Maupin, and later drove a school bus in Maupin before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his daughter, Thais Abercrombie, Mosier, 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services are today (Thursday), 2 p.m. at Kelly Cemetery in Maupin. Elder Robert E. Feinauer of the Hood River Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will conduct services. Smith Callaway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
