Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 11:26 am The Dalles Chronicle, October 12, 2005 Raymond Pershing McClain, 86, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005. He was born March 10, 1919, in Sutherland, Neb., to James and Susan (Knowles) McClain. He moved to Grand Coulee, Wash., as a young man, where he met and later married Velda LeBaron on December 15, 1938. He was in the Seventy-Seventh Infantry in Okinawa during World War II, where he was wounded. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Upon returning he worked as a salesman in photography and automobiles. He is survived by his wife, Velda McClain, The Dalles; his sons, Lee McClain, Seattle, Wash.; Jim McClain, Caldwell, Idaho; and Luke McClain, Caldwell; his sister, Esther Gigous, Olalla, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Marvin. Memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at The Dalles Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, 1003 Sunflower St. West. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
