He was a resident of Grass Valley and the Kent area for 56 years. Mr. Martin was born March 5, 1906 at Grand Mound, Wash. He was a 1929 graduate of the University of Oregon, where he received a bachelor of science degree in business. He was commissioned as second lieutenant in the ROTC. He returned to wheat and cattle ranching in Sherman County until he became ill in 1982. He was a member of the Oregon Cattlemen's Association. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, Grass Valley, whom he married April 14, 1928 in Eugene; one son, Leroy Martin, Kent; one daughter, Sharon Martin, Grass Valley; one brother, Donald Martin, Wasco; six grandchildren; Wendy, Vicky, Tammy, Bob W. Bryan, and Amy Martin. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, July 25 at the Grass Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Carlson, Ed Fritts, Bryon Carlson, Harold Eakin, Craig Wood, and Art Buether. Mr. Martin lay in state Monday and Tuesday at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Sherman County ambulance fund, or the American Diabetes Association, or the Sherman County Historical Society.
