Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 30, 2006, 1:15 pm The Dalles Chronicle, August 4, 2006 Anna O. Markman, 85, The Dalles, died July 30, 2006 at a local care facility. She was born on July 8, 1921 in Plush, Oregon. She was the youngest of three children born to Henry and Nina Orvilla (Lemberger) Stein. She was raised in Lakeview, Oregon, graduating from Lakeview High School in 1939. She met her husband Marvin, while attending what was then known as Oregon State College. They were married Jan.10, 1942 in Reno, Nev. She lived and worked in Portland and Lakeview while Marvin served in the Army during World War II. Upon his discharge, they briefly lived in Portland. They moved to the family farm outside The Dalles in Sept. 1947. They remained on the farm for the next 58 years, raising a family and farming wheat on the land they loved. She was active in Petersburg School activities including the PTA. She was a 4-H leader, member of the First United Methodist Church and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She liked to play bridge, read and do handicrafts. She and her husband enjoyed attending the activities of their grandchildren. They were great OSU football fans, often traveling to Corvallis to watch the Beavers. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin in 2005, and by her brothers Merton Stein and John Stein. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Celia and Ken Wienholz of Danville, Calif., Karen and Tom Mitchell of Applegate, James and Jennifer Markman and William and Shelia Markman of The Dalles, and Sharon and Stacey Behrens of Twin Falls, Idaho; grandchildren: Christina Wienholz, Anna Marie Wienholz Murray. Jonathan, Nicholas, Margot, Stephanie, and Jeffrey Markman and Rebecca and Katelyn Behrens and nephews: Gary Stein, Ron Stein and Michael Powers. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 at The Dalles United Methodist Church with interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge and The First Methodist Church in her memory.
