     Raymond “Stub” Donald Manning Sr., 79, a resident of Murdock, died at the 
Oregon Veterans’ Home on Sunday, May 30, 2004.
     He was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Cherry Creek, near Norris, Mont., the 
youngest of six children to Sylvester Andrew and Edna Paula (Clegg) Manning. 
The family moved to Washington when he was a child and he was raised in 
Stevenson.
     He married Lucille Maury on Jan. 1, 1943 and he served in the U.S. Army 
Air Corp during World War II. After the service, he worked for the Burlington 
Northern Railroad retiring as a signal maintenance man in December 1986.
     He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, although he didn’t like to 
eat fish. He also enjoyed old Western movies and fixing old cars. After the 
death of his wife Lucille in January 1980, he married Carol Dorothy Von Derahe 
in July 1981, in Dallesport.
     He is survived by his wife, Carol, Murdock; five children, Joan and her 
husband, Hank Brown, The Dalles; Lily Ross, Reno, Nev.; Raymond Donald Manning 
Jr. and his wife, Jann, Dallesport; Betty and her husband Larry Leingang, 
Vancouver, Wash.; and Patsy and her husband, Mike Hunter, Hermiston; 14 
grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; 
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
     No public services will be held. Private cremation was held at The Dalles 
Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of 
arrangements.
     Memorial contributions may be made to Celilo Cancer Center, 1800 East 
19th Street, The Dalles, OR 97058 or Ray T. Yasui Dialysis Center, c/o Hood 
River Memorial Hospital, PO Box 149, Hood River, OR 97031.
