Surnames: Magill, Remington, Landreth, Shaw Stanley Leon Magill, 84, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on Sunday, March 16, 2003. He was born May 29, 1918, in Tygh Valley (Oregon), the youngest of four children to Fred Gardner and Melvie (Remington) Magill, and grew up in Wamic (Oregon). He joined the National Guard prior to World War II and was called to active duty after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After his discharge in July 1945, he returned to the Mid-Columbia area and bought a ranch at Cecil (Oregon) in Morrow County, where he farmed in partnership with his father. He married Eleanor Rose Landreth on December 12, 1947, in Walla Walla (Washington), and they ranched at Cecil until retiring to The Dalles in 1974. He was a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and American Legion and enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He is survived by his sons, Leon Magill and his wife, Linda, Pendleton (Oregon); and Leland Magill, Oak Harbor, Washington; his daughter, Marlene Shaw, Milwaukie (Oregon); grandchildren, David, Scott, Ryan, Stefanie, Justin and Jason, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, on March 21, 1987, and all of his siblings. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, on Tuesday, March 18, from 2 to 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at the Veterans' section of The Dalles Parklawn Cemetery with Asa Jenson officiating.
