The Dalles Weekly Reminder, July 21, 1983
     Lanore Clifford Lyda, 70, a resident of Dufur for 25 years, died July 12 
at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland.
     He was born March 4, 1913 in Banks to Alfred and Rosabella Vohs Lyda.  He 
attended Greenville Grade School and graduated from Banks High School, 
attended Oregon Normal and later the University of Oregon in Eugene on 
baseball scholarships.
     He married Alma Love on Nov. 10, 1937 and from 1939 to 1955 owned 
Coastway Lumber Co. and Lyda Brothers Logging.  In 1957 he purchased a wheat 
ranch in Dufur and lived there the rest of his life.
     He was a past member of the Washington County Sheriff's Posse, was a 
member of The Dalles Elks Lodge No. 303 and the Oregon Wheat Growers League.  
He played amateur baseball for more than 20 years with teams in Banks and 
Verbort and in 1949 his team won the state championships.  He pitched in the 
title game and was named to the all-star team.  He was also an avid hunter.
     Survivors include his wife, Alma L., Dufur; two sons, Norman and Melvin, 
both of Dufur; two daughters, Joan Struck, Teneta, and Carolyn Baker, 
Vernonia; a brother, Vern, Forest Grove and 11 grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held Friday, July 15 at Forest Grove Memorial 
Chapel with the Rev. Ivan Marble officiating.  Vault interment will be in 
Hillside Cemetery.
     Memorials may be made to St. Vincent's Medical Foundation, Laser Fund, 
9205 Barnes Road, Portland, 97225.
