Linder Surnames: Linder, Lewis, Nite, Clark, Zimmerman Charles "Chuck" J. Linder, 77, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on Thursday, January 2, 2003. He was born October 25, 1925, in Des Arc, Arkansas, the younger of two sons to Louis M. and Elsie Bell (Lewis) Linder. He grew up in Arkansas, and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, on the USS Baltimore as a gun mate. He returned to Arkansas, where he farmed until 1953. He then moved to Casa Grande-Eloy area of Arizona and worked in general insurance. In 1970, he moved to Seaside (Oregon), working as a general contractor and in sales. He continued to work as a manufacturing representative after moving to Portland in 1983. He moved to The Dalles in 1997. Chuck was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges and the American Legion and he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the lodges. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball, and enjoyed the outdoors and fishing and spending time at his home at Lincoln City (Oregon). He also was a movie fan, especially John Wayne movies. He is survived by his wife, Billie Linder, whom he married on June 19, 1964, in Las Vegas (Nevada); his children, Brenda Nite, Houston, Texas; Bob Linder and his wife, Cathe, The Dalles; Jerry Linder and Katherine Peterson, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Gayle Clark and her husband, Michael, The Dalles; grandchildren, Mark, Bob, Scott, Melissa, Joe, Jeremy and Autumn, great-grandchildren, Jacqui, Drew and Ryan, mother-in-law, Genevieve Zimmerman, The Dalles; brother-in-law, Mel Zimmerman and niece, Holly Zimmerman both of Everett, Washington. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Asa Jenson officiating. Graveside services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 6.
