     Margaret “Jeanne” Lewis, 86, a former resident of The Dalles, died at her 
home in Arlington, Wash., on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005.
     She was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Pendleton, the eighth of nine children to 
William and Christina (Bell) Saunders. 
     While in grade school, she moved to The Dalles with her family and 
graduated from The Dalles High School in 1937. She graduated from East Burnham 
School of Beauty in Chicago, Ill., in 1939 and returned to The Dalles upon her 
graduation, operating her own hair salon for several years.
     She married Don G. Lewis in 1944. They were married for 52 years before 
he preceded her in death in 1996.
     She worked many years for Jessie’s Flower Shop as well as Joan’s Beauty 
Salon. In 1998, she moved to Arlington, to live with her daughter and her 
family.
     She was a member of P.E.O Chapter Q and enjoyed her grandchildren, 
friends, neighbors, gardening, antiquing and various creative projects. 
     She is survived by her daughter, Sondra, and her husband, Jim Brunkhorst, 
Arlington, and their children, Tyler, Carly and Austin; her son, Scott and his 
wife, Connie Lewis, Oregon City, and their children, Erin and Tony; her son, 
Steve and his wife, Leah, Beaverton, and their children, Alexandra, Nicholas 
and Tristan; her son, Sheldon Lewis, Mill Valley, Calif.; her husband’s step-
mother, Lil Lewis, Oregon City; her sister-in-law, Joan Lewis, The Dalles; and 
many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; 
grandson, Todd Lewis, and all of her siblings.
     Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Odd Fellows 
Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road. 
     Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle 
St., The Dalles, OR 97058.
