Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 31, 2006, 10:18 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, June 19, 1987 Ralph H. Lewis, 67, died June 9 at the local hospital. He was a resident of The Dalles for 20 yers. Mr. Lewis was born Dec. 31, 1919, in Shubert, Neb. He worked as an Iron Worker, was a member of the American Legion and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1939 through 1945. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorene, in 1979. He is survived by two brothers, John Lewis of Nebraska and Gene Lewis of California; a nephew, John Lewis of Pacific Beach, Wash.; and Judy Cooper of California. Funeral services were held at Smith Callaway Chapel, officiated by Pastor Asa Jenson and followed by vault interment at the veterans section of the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles. Pallbearers were John Lewis, Jack Collins, George Pulliam, R. A. Nowling, Ed Hicks and Roy Workinger. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Fund in care of Smith Callaway Chapel.
