Darlene Strain Lewallen Obituary Surnames: Strain, Peterson Darlene Strain Lewallen, 74, a resident of Dallesport (Washington), died at the local hospital on Friday, January 17, 2003. She was born September 3, 1928, in Polk County, Iowa, the youngest of four children to Roy and Hazel (Peterson) Strain. She grew up in Polk County and graduated in 1946 from high school in Urbandale, Iowa. She married Charles "Don" Donald Lewallen on June 19, 1948, in Indianola, Iowa. They lived in the Des Moines, Iowa area until moving to Gresham (Oregon) in 1963. In the early 1990s, they traveled and lived in their motor home before settling in Dallesport in the mid 1990s. She was a member of Lifeline Baptist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, bird watching, traveling, homemaking and being with her family. She is survived by her husband, Don Lewallen, Dallesport; her sons and their wives, David G. and Christine Lewallen, The Dalles; and Donald G. and Theresa Lewallen, Gresham; grandchildren, Daniel, Sheila, Sarah and Karen, great-grand- children, Alex and Andrea, her brothers, Raymond Strain, Kansas City, Kansas; and Dale Strain, Meridan, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her brother Russell. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Lifeline Baptist Church. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
