He was born August 29, 1929, in Oak Harbor, Washington, the third of five children to Clarence and Jennie (DeGraaf) Leigh. He was raised in Gold Bar, Washington and the family moved to The Dalles in 1940. He later lived in Mosier (Oregon) and then in Dufur in the early 1980s. He worked on tug boats on the Columbia River, at The Dalles Sawmill and later for Virgil Ellett's Christmas tree farm. He loved playing his harmonica with the groups at the Ramsey Park and Chenowith Granges and other activities. He would play his harmonica for anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed keeping a daily diary. He is survived by his brother, Joe Leigh, Dufur; sisters, Violet Wilson and Dorothy Griffin, both of The Dalles; Betty Clark, Dufur; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Viewing and visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Friday, May 16 from 2 to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Kingsley Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 with Asa Jenson officiating.
