He was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Minot, N.D., the third of seven children to Ralph Delano and Grace E. (Anderson) Lehman. He graduated from high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, and attended the University of North Dakota where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education. He later earned his master’s of education from Oregon State University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the early 1950’s. He married Inga Nyhus on May 21, 1954, in East Grand Forks, Minn. He started teaching in 1958 at The Dalles High School and then Wahtonka High School, retiring in 1987. His wife of 37 years, Inga, preceded him in death in July 1991. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bird watching and antique car collecting, specifically Volkswagons and Corvaires. He is survived by his wife, Norma L. Lehman, The Dalles, whom he married Sept. 15, 2000 in Burley, Idaho; his children, Holly and her husband, Dean Stroud, Gig Harbor, Wash.; John and his wife, Angela Lehman, The Dalles; Julie and her husband, Henry Acuna, Bremerton, Wash.; step-children, Deanna and her husband, Mark Theobald, Salt Lake City, Utah; James and his wife, Elaine Moore, Idaho Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Zachary and Jake Stroud, Courtney, Kaitlyn and Johnathan Lehman, Austin and Griffin Acuna; his brother, Keith Lehman and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home from 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 and on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 6. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, OR 97058, Oregon Heart Association, 1425 NE Irving #100, Portland, OR 97232-4201, American Cancer Society, 2120 First Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98109.
