Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 31, 2006, 9:11 pm The Dalles Chronicle, October 15, 2006 John “Rocky” Joseph Lambert, 59, a resident of The Dalles, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles. He was born on July 8, 1947 in Omaha, Neb., the first of four children to Claude M. and Lee A.G. (Moreland) Lambert. He grew up in Chula Vista, Calif., and attended Hilltop High School there. After high school, he worked as a brick layer prior to being drafted. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1969 and received the Meritorious Service Award and the Expert Rifleman Award for his duty in communications in Vietnam. After military service, he returned home to Chula Vista, then using experience gained in the service, he opened, owned and operated OnCall Communications, a telephone answering service in La Jolla, Calif. Living in Southern California, he loved surfing and sailing. A salesman in the publishing industry, he came to Oregon in the summer of 1992 and met Lois Trueb (Brown) and married in the spring in Reno. He enjoyed his sales career with various companies including radio, cellular, publishing, copy machines and automobiles. He was a commissioner for the Historic Landmarks Commission, served on the Region 9 Workforce Investment Board and the Local Public Safety Coordinating Council; he was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion. He enjoyed golf, was a trivia expert, movie buff and an avid reader, and recently was enjoying his adopted dog “Oreo” — a shared enjoyment with his 12- year-old daughter. He is survived by Lois Trueb Lambert, The Dalles, separated spouse: Lee Baca, Chula Vista, mother; Devan Trueb and Adam Trueb, sons, Portland; Tiffany Trueb and Destawny Lambert, daughters, The Dalles; Rick Ham, brother, Chula Vista; Sisters Teresa Moran, Tomi Brown and Kate Ham, all of Chula Vista; nieces Iva Weiche and Michele Larson, both Chula Vista, and Jennifer Edwards of Alpine, Calif.; nephews, Seth and Ty Moran and Matthew Brown of Chula Vista, and Bronson Fegurgur, Bonita, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude and his sister Lynne Fegurgur (Ham). A memorial celebration will be held at the Eagles Lodge on Friday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to come when they can, stay as long as they like for “Cheeseburgers in Paradise” and music of Jimmy Buffet and all of Rocky’s favorites. Bring jokes and stories to tell, or write them on a card, sign them or not. Submit your “thoughts and letters for a daughter” as a keepsake for Destawny’s teenage years to come. Those unable to attend, may mail to PO Box 1207, The Dalles, OR 97058 or email lambert@netcnct.net. An account has been set up for Destawny Lambert at Oregon Territory Federal Credit Union and donations can also be made to Home At Last Animal Shelter and the American Cancer Society. A private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. The interment of remains will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
