He was born July 21, 1923, in Spokane (Washington), the fifth of 11 children to Charles Joseph and Annette Agnes (McManus) LaMarche. He moved with his family to The Dalles as a young child. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad before serving in the U.S. Army Railroad Division in Belgium. He returned to The Dalles and worked for the railroad after the war. He transferred to Portland when The Dalles Union Pacific railroad office closed and he retired as a chief clerk in the mid 1980's. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, American Legion, Eagles and Elks Lodge and Union Pacific Old Timers. He enjoyed bingo, sports including football and basketball, big band music, reading and watching television. He is survived by his brother, Ray LaMarche, The Dalles; his sisters, Margaret Douglas, Montesano, Washington; Cecilia Dickson and Pat Thomsen, both of The Dalles and Kathryn A. Wilson, Albany (Oregon) numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald and Francis and sisters, Mary, Evelyn and Dorothy. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Friday, December 13, from 2 to 7 p.m. and 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday. Recitation of Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Reverend Todd Unger as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to St. Mary's School Foundation, 1112 Cherry Heights Road, The Dalles, Oregon 97058.
