Laizure, 78, died at a local care center on Nov. 16, 2004. He was born Sept. 21, 1926 in Omak, Wash., the second of two sons of Clayton and Evelyn Laizure. He grew up in Omak and went to grade school and high school there. After graduating from Washington State University with a pharmacy degree and a minor in chemistry, he worked in small pharmacies. He moved to southern Oregon in 1960 and worked as a manager of a chain retail store, Payless Drug, for 20 years; two years at Mid-Columbia Medical Center Hospital and at Care Corner in Hood River. He was active in Rotary, Lions Club, Ducks Unlimited and senior warden of the Episcopal Church of Oregon for 10 years. He also served for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, camping, floating the Rogue River and the Salmon River in Idaho. Flying his 182 Cessna in the 1980s was his passion. Survivors include his first wife, Janet Noble Haller, whom he married in 1951; his second wife, Sue King Laizure, whom he married in 1972; five children, Carol Laizure, Diane Laizure, Elaine Laizure, Rachelle Wilson and Todd Laizure; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In accordance with his wishes, his body was donated to Bio-Gift Anatomical for research at the Veterans Administration Hospital Research Department in Los Angeles in the areas of dementia and cancer. The family will have a private celebration of life in Salem in conjunction with placement of his ashes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norman Clear Memorial Fund at Covenant Christian Community, where he was a member and served as an usher.
