He resided in The Dalles since 1950. Mr. Lafrenz was born March 12, 1916 in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He came to The Dalles in 1950 to work for the Bonneville Power Administration. In 1953 he opened Nick Rich Made Ice Cream store on West 6th Street. He operated it until 1956, then went to work for Harvey Aluminum, which is now Martin Marietta. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge, and the WWII Veterans. He is survived by four sons: Nicholas Lafrenz, The Dalles; and Tony Lafrenz, Portland; two daughters: Marguerite Jorgensen, Grand Coulee, Wash.; and Mimi Grindle, Portland; one brother, Bill Lafrenz, The Dalles; three sisters: Janet Hasz, Kellogg, Idaho; Mary Beck, Post Falls, Idaho; Doris Roberts, Spokane, Wash.; and 11 grandchildren. His wife Loretta died in April, 1973. Recitation of the rosary was held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home Friday July 20. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Timothy Mockaitis officiated. Pallbearers were Earl Sawyer, Jack Bartell, Joe Byrne, Charlie McCarthy, Clarence Neville, Pete Miles. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Ritter and Loy Brown. Burial followed at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery with veterans services conducted by the local veterans.
