     Alma E. Kunkel, 79, resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility 
on Monday, June 27, 2005.
     She was born Feb. 11, 1926 in Mauston, Wis. on the family farm to Herbert 
Jefferson and Eva “Esther” (Richerson) Pishion. She was raised in Jewell 
County and attended schools in Adams County, Wis. She never finished school 
due to family tragedy and taking care of her siblings at a young age. She also 
worked as a housekeeper outside of the home to help support the family. 
     She married Arnold Colby in December 1943 in Marquette County, Wis. She 
worked in the fabric industry and bakery while living in Madison, Wis. She and 
her husband moved to The Dalles in 1970. She worked at the bakery in 
Albertsons grocery store until retirement. In 1987, Arnold Colby preceded her 
in death and on March 18, 1995, she married Emil H. Kunkel in Reno, Nev. 
She was a member of Moose and Eagles Lodges and enjoyed traveling, fishing, 
bowling, gardening, yard work and her roses. 
     She is survived by her husband, Emil Kunkel, The Dalles; brothers, Fay 
and his wife, Regina Pishion, The Dalles, Leonard and his wife, Elaine 
Pishion, Dodgeville, Wis; Otis and his wife, Dorothy Winchester, Lincoln City; 
sisters, Wilma and her husband, Don Paulson, Middleton, Wis; Ruth and her 
husband, Leroy Cobler, Kalispell, Mont; numerous nieces and nephews. She was 
preceded in death by her first husband; brothers, Herbert Pishion and Ernest 
Pishion, and sisters, Nora Hagelstead and Esther Putman. 
     Graveside services will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights 
Road at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is 
in care of arrangements.
