     Russel Jerome “Jerry” Kosse, a resident of the Dalles since 1960, died 
Jan. 5, 2006.
     He was born in Elgin, Neb., on Dec. 16, 1920 to John Benjamin and Anna 
(Augusta) Kosse. At 16, he hitchhiked to Oregon to join family. During World 
War II, he joined the Army Air Corps where he was a flight engineer on B-17’s. 
His plane was shot down over Germany and he spent 21 months in the German 
prison camp, Stalaag 17. He owned and operated Jerry’s Chevron in The Dalles 
and then worked for Napa Auto Parts until his retirement.
     He enjoyed fishing, camping, pinochle and spending time with family, 
friends and neighbors.
     He is survived by Pat, his wife of 59 years; his daughter Charlotte and 
son-in-law Richard Armstrong; grandchildren, Ronald Armstrong, Jill Armstrong 
and Keith Grimm; his “adopted” daughters Brenda Barton and Connie Quillinan 
and his great grandson and namesake Owen Kosse Grimm. He is also survived by 
two sisters in California and numerous nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his son, John; his daughter Sylvia, and 
grandson Nolan.
     Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home 
on Friday, Jan. 6, and Saturday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, Jan. 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. 
at The Dalles Eagles Club.

Seattle, WA 98109 or Save the Salmon.
