Knowles, died New Year's Eve in Portland. She was the mother of Mrs. Arthur Brown of Grass Valley. She was born in Junction City, Kan. on Oct. 16, 1897. She moved to Oregon with her parents as a small child and lived most of her life in Portland. She spent part of one year in Grass Valley with her daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. Arthur and Mariam Brown. Mrs. Knowles' church membership was at First Baptist Church in Grass Valley but she attended the Indian Baptist Church in northeast Portland where she was church organist. The funeral service was at the Portland church with the Rev. Watlan Butler and the Rev. Brown officiating. Burial was at the Willamette National Cemetery. Her husband, Daniel Knowles, who was a veteran of World War I, is buried there. Survivors also include a daughter, Esther Nold, a son, John Knowles, 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church in Grass Valley.
