The Dalles Weekly Reminder, September 4, 1987
Elmer William Knowles, 90, died at a local nursing home Aug. 29.  He was a 
local resident for most of his life.

Mr. Knowles was born in Osakis, Minn. on Aug. 4, 1897.  He and his parents 
came to Oregon at the turn of the century and farmed a homestead near Friend.  
He married Pluma Hayworth on May 17, 1934 in Goldendale, and spent most of his 
life farming.  He was also an avid hunter.

He is survived by a brother, Raymond Knowles of Rowena; a sister Josie 
McAllister of The Dalles; two nephews, Tom and Dick McAllister of The Dalles.

Funeral services were held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
officiated by Dr. James Hazlett.  Private burial followed at Dufur Community 
Cemetery.
