Kniesteadt, 80, died Aug. 26. He was a resident of The Dalles for 50 years. Mr. Kniesteadt was born in Jewell County, Kansas, on Dec. 8, 1906. He was the owner of the Liberty Club, Cherry City Motel and Carl's Cafe locally and was known for his cabinet work. He is survived by his wife Pauline L. of The Dalles; son, Rex of The Dalles; daughters, Opal Manchester of Spokane, Dawn Bowerman of West Linn, Iva Frantz of Spokane and Barbara Johnson of West Linn; a brother, Walter of Harrison, Mich.; a sister Edna Scott of Hutchison, Kans.; 16 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren. Chapel services were held at Smith Callaway Chapel followed by memorial entombment at the IOOF Mausoleum. Dr. James Hazlett officiated. Memorials are suggested to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in care of Smith Callaway Chapel. Pallbearers were: Victor Kniesteadt, Samuel Kniesteadt, Russell Manchester, Marcus, Steven and Bradley Bowerman.
