Wakley iwakley@msn.com and July 11, 2006, 12:31 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, February 5, 1988 Melvin F. Klampe, 83, died Jan. 30 in The Dalles. He had lived here since 1984. Mr. Klampe was born in Ellendorf, Iowa on Nov. 13, 1904. He farmed in South Dakota and moved to Salem in 1945, where he worked for a local company. He later worked for the Oregon State School for the Deaf and was there 15 years until his retirement in 1966. After moving to The Dalles in 1984, he was active in senior citizen activities and played the drums in the band. He was preceded in death by a son. He is survived by his wife, Marie of The Dalles; son, Darrell of The Dalles; two grandchildren, Ronald and Lorraine Harris; two great- grandchildren; two brothers. Graveside services were held at the Odd Fellows Parklawn Memorial Garden officiated by Pastor Egerton C. Long. Memorials are suggested to the Persad International Student Fund at Eugene Bible College, 21455 Bailey Hill Rd., Eugene, OR 97045. Smith Callaway Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
