Wakley iwakley@msn.com March 7, 2007, 12:39 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, May 3, 1984 Stanley Donald Kirchner, 59, died in his home in The Dalles Thursday evening. He was born in Portland on May 24, 1924. Mr. Kirchner served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had worked as a draftsman for the Oregon State Highway Department for 18 years. Most recently he worked as a custodian at Dry Hollow Elementary School in 1979 and 1980 before he was forced to retire because of health reasons. He is survived by his wife, Violet, whom he married in Portland on Sept. 8, 1951; one son, Scott, Salem; and a daughter, Charlotte Kirchner, Portland. Graveside services were Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, with the Rev. Merlin Baker officiating. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in care of local arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
