Surnames: Kimbell, Flanery, Cyphers, Browning Tommie "Tom" Ray Kimbell, 62, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local hospital on Monday, May 12, 2003. He was born December 1, 1940, in Simms, Texas, the oldest of 4 children to Lon Willis and Mary Elizabeth (Flanery) Kimbell. The family moved from Simms to the Northwest in the 1940's. He began grade school in Hood River (Oregon) and attended high school in The Dalles and completed his GED. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1961, then returned to The Dalles and married Patricia Ellen Cyphers on August 3, 1962, in The Dalles. He took a job as a truck driver since it had been a childhood dream of his, and enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening, and his houseplants. He is survived by his wife Pat; two sons, Jeremy Kimbell; Robert and his wife Julie Kimbell; his daughter, MaryLee Browning; his granddaughter, Sam Browning, all of The Dalles; two brothers, Lon Willis Kimbell Jr., Ferndale, Washington; Fred Allen Kimbell, The Dalles; his sister, Jennie Kimbell, Tacoma (Washington); numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Virgil Browning in June 1988. An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
