She was born December 2, 1942 in Portland to Jacob I. And Wallie (Kuhnhausen) Pierce. She was raised at the family farm in Glenwood (Washington). After high school she worked for the Department of Natural Resources on Diamond Gap Lookout and later worked for several years as the office manager at Skyline Hospital. She also worked at the White Salmon (Washington) and Hood River (Oregon) Elks and as a truck driver. She was a member of the White Salmon Elks Lodge No. 1868 and the Eagles Aerie No. 2210 and for the past several years had volunteered at the Veterans Home in The Dalles. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Many (sp) Antoinette Pierce. Survivors include her children, son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Glena Avila, Vancouver (Washington); daughter, Arthelda Avila, Dallesport; stepchildren, Debra Woodward, Glenwood, Ron Whitmire, Goldendale (Washington); grandchildren, Angel, Antonia and Sylvia Avila; Arly and Ashley Woodward and McKayla and Myles Whitmire; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Mary Pierce, Silver Lake; sister and brother-in-law, Lila and Mike McDonald, Kennewick, Washington; several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and many close friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the White Salmon Elks Lodge. A reception will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Summit View Church in Vancouver, Glenwood Cemetery or to the family to help with final expenses in care of Gardiner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 390, White Salmon, Washington 98672, who handled arrangements.
