He was born Feb. 27, 1919 in Sioux City, Iowa, the oldest of three children to Luke Foster and Iva Pearl (Kuhns) Killion. He was raised in Sioux City. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1938, served in World War II and the Korean conflict, and retired after 20 years of active duty as a chief aerographer’s mate. After the service, he worked as an airport meteorologist and retired after 21 years of Civil Service. He married Beatrice “Bea” Taylor on April 10, 1951 in San Francisco. They lived all around the world while he was in the service including, China, Japan and the Philippines. In 1959, they settled in San Diego to raise a family. The family moved to Stayton in 1973 and in the early ’90s, he moved to Silverton. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his work. He is survived by four children, Kelli and her husband, Steve Manning, Salem; Traci Hunter, Silverton; Robert Killion, Salem; Michelle and her husband, Dee Page, Salem; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Burl and his wife, Darlene Olmsted, Yakima, Wash.; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bea in April 1990 and his brother, Bob in September 1992. Graveside services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery at 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27, with military rites and Asa Jenson officiating. Smith Callaway Chapel is in care of arrangements.
