Keys, 73, a resident of Dufur, died at his son’s home in Dufur on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003. He was born in Pine Creek, Idaho, on May 24, 1930 to Truman Benjamin and Beulah (Maserve) Keys and grew up in Washington and Oregon with his five sisters and four brothers. He served his country for three years in the U.S. Air Force. He married Jo An C. Ross in Colton, Ore. on Sept. 15, 1957 and they had four children. They lived in Dufur for 42 years, the last 18 as Arizona snowbirds. He worked in the aluminum industry in The Dalles for 27 years, retiring as a potline supervisor. He was a member of the Dufur Christian Church and the White River Christian Fellowship in Tygh Valley, as well as serving on the Dufur Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting, traveling, mushroom hunting and prospecting for gold. Survivors include his wife Jo An of Dufur; his children and their families; Merle and Tammy Keys of Dufur and their children Nevan, Abbey and Fisher Keys; Carol Keys-Bindley and her daughter Amanda of Dufur, Paul and Becky Keys and their children, Megan Heming, Chelsea Keys, Tasha and Jason Truman of Boyd, and daughter Beverly and her husband Bernie Gorczynski of Durham, Ore. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters; Charles and Irene Keys of The Dalles, Wilber Keys of Olympia, Wash., Hazel and Clias Van Dyne of Vancouver, Wash., Ruby Truesdale of Seaside, Ore. and Myrtle Dare of Aurora, Ore. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Albert, brother Edward, and sisters Beatrice Lund and Mildred White. A celebration of life service will be held in the spring of 2004 at the Dufur Christian Church with pastors Bob Peterson and Asa Jensen presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street. The Dalles, 97058. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
