She was born on June 22, 1919 in Colville, Washington to Jacob and Bertha (Rotter) Schumaker. She grew up working hard on a small farm and graduated from Colville High School. Marguerite married Vincel K. Kennedy on June 12, 1940, in Colville, Washington. Their longest places of residence were 24 years in Vernonia and 12 years in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. They were together for nearly 63 years. Marguerite's love for, and tireless service to, her husband and immediate family are beyond description. She was an awesome wife, mother and grandmother. She surrendered her heart and life to Jesus when she was 18 years old and served Him faithfully for 66 years. Marguerite was a woman of prayer, worship and the Scriptures. Her Bibles are well worn. She always had a large heart for missions. Marguerite was a woman who loved and served others. Her cooking, gardening and hospitality were a blessing to people in many contexts and locations throughout her years. Pride, ambition and image didn't motivate her. Marguerite would reach out to the unlovely, the very poor, the smelly and the unpopular. No person or task was ever beneath her. Marguerite didn't just talk about the character of Christ. In many ways His character defined who she was. Anger, resentments, and critical attitudes were very foreign to her. She would never speak a harsh word or complain of lack or hardships. On the other hand, love, forgiveness, helpfulness, loyalty, giving, gentleness and devotion exuded from her. Following her first stroke in October of 2002 she was on the receiving end of numerous expression of kindness and help from many people including both Life in Christ and Foursquare Churches, neighbors, her primary caregiver, Candice Carrell, and the medical support system in our area. Both she and her immediate family were (and are) deeply grateful for this. Thanks! Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Gene Schumaker. She is survived by her husband, Vincel; son and daughter-in-law, Loren and Kathy; and three grandchildren Kaylee (14), Wesley (12), and Judah (10) Kennedy, all of whom reside in The Dalles. Other survivors include two brothers and two sisters, Bill and Tony Schumaker, Theresa Peters and Louise Anderson, all of Washington state. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 28, at 3:30 p.m., at Life in Christ Center in The Dalles, Pastor Julius Jepson will officiate. An additional memorial service, and interment will be in Colville, Washington on Saturday, May 3rd. Memorials may be made to foreign missions through either Life in Christ Center or Harvest Foursquare Church. "Only one life will soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last!"
