Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 10, 2006, 12:59 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, March 27, 1987 C. J. (Kip) Kendrick, 89, died at a Goldendale nursing home March 17. He was a resident of Lyle and The Dalles for the past 60 years. Mr. Kendrick was born Dec. 27, 1897, in Crossville, Tenn. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He married his wife, Maude, Feb. 17, 1919. He moved to The Dalles in 1926 where he managed grocery stores, including the Kip Foodland, which was located where Turner's Home Furnishing is now located. In 1957 he moved to Lyle and bought the Lyle Mercantile Store. In 1964, the family bought the Gilchrist Supermarket in Gilchrist, which he operated for 2-1/2 years, later returning to The Dalles. He is survived by his wife, Maude, of Lyle; two sons, Del Kendrick of Lyle, and Carlisle Kendrick of Yakima; a daughter, Carmen Ambos of Reno; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Kendrick of Wendell, Ida.; two sisters, Iva Lehman of Twin Falls, Ida., and Ruby Lionberger of Boise. Memorial services were held at the Lyle Full Gospel Church with Pastor David Kelly officiating. Memorials may be made to the Lyle Full Gospel Church building fund. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
