She was born to Glenn and Bessie Fairchild on the homestead near Grass Valley on Dec. 11, 1918. She married Ted Kelly in Goldendale on Sept. 19, 1936. She enjoyed taking family and friends on car rides in Sherman and Wasco counties. After the rides she would treat them by taking them out to eat. She wrote for the Sherman County newspaper about the people and events that occurred in the Kent community for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, and a sister, Dorothy Francis. Survivors are her son, John R. Kelly and wife Barbara, Oregon City; daughter, Karen L. Traughber and husband, Maurice, Troutdale; sister, Frances Garoutte, Grants Pass; two brothers, John Fairchild, Grants Pass; and Glenn Fairchild, Ashland; six grandchildren, 15-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and their children. A private memorial service was held at the home of her son in Oregon City on July 30. Private interment will be held for family only in Kent.
