Rae Arlene Mcdonald Kaufman, 63, a resident of Portland, died at her home on 
Saturday, July 22, 1995.

She was born Dec. 29, 1931, in The Dalles to Lester and Helen G. (Philmlee) 
McDonald.  She was active in athletics and music and graduated from The Dalles 
High School in 1949.

She was a bookkeeper at Service Motors and married Larry Kaufman in The Dalles 
on Aug. 23, 1953

Her husband was career military and they lived in many locations, until his 
retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps in Quantico, Va. in 1975, when they 
resided in El Toro and San Diego, Calif., for 17 years prior to moving to 
Portland in 1992.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Mission Viejo, and Rivergreen Golf 
Club in Gladstone.  She was the Summerplace Woman Golfer of the Year, 1994, 
and a nine-hole champion.  She also enjoyed bowling, and was active with 
American Field Service, starting an AFS chapter in El Toro in 1976 and hosting 
an exchange student, 1976-77.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of Portland; four sons; Larry A. Kaufman 
Jr., Douglas Kaufman and Jon K. Kaufman, all of Southern California and Brent 
L. Kaufman of Gresham; one grandson; three brothers:  Hollis A. McDonald of 
Tucson, Ariz., Jesse C. and Russell L. McDonald, both of The Dalles; sister, 
Norma J. Clark of The Dalles; sister-in-law, Lila McDonald of Klamath Falls; 
and former AFS student, Dr. Richard Ryland of Stockholm, Sweden.  She was 
preceded in death by her parents, a brother, L. W. Bill McDonald and sister, 
Joanne McDonald.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at Spencer, Libby and 
Powell Funeral Home in The Dalles with interment at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery.

Memorials:  VNA Hospice #100, Portland, or the American Cancer Society, sent 
in care of Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The 
Dalles, OR 97058
