A former resident of Sherman and Wasco counties, she had lived in Portland for 24 years. Mrs. Joyce was born in Barna, Co. Galway, Ireland, June 1, 1896, and came to America in 1915. She married John Joyce in New York City on Jan. 13, 1918 and moved with him to Grass Valley in 1919. Later, she and her husband homesteaded in Sherman County and in 1925 moved to the Bakeoven area, later to Pine Grove in 1934, where they farmed until retirement in 1963. Mrs. Joyce was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Portland. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1966 and daughter Margaret in 1985, and son, Toby, in 1934. She is survived by four daughters, Anna Joyce of Portland, Kathleen Pilling of Lafayette, Cal., Mary Maurer of Antelope, and Barbara Sharp of Grass Valley; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grnadchildren. Recitation of the Rosary was held at Smith Callaway Chapel and Mass for Christian Burial at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. William S. Stone as celebrant. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Academy in The Dalles or to charity of choice.
