Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 17, 2006, 11:20 pm The Dalles Chronicle, January 31, 2006 Lewis Enoch Jones, 95, a former The Dalles resident, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 in Nampa, Idaho, of natural causes. He was born March 5, 1910 to Charles Lewis and Ruth Etta Kenworthy Jones in Esbon, Kansas. He attended schools at various places as he grew up. He first moved to Oregon from Idaho Falls when he was 18. Working with animals and farming took him to several places in the Pacific Northwest. He logged with horses, purchasing his first chainsaw in 1944, it weighed 135 lbs and had a seven-foot chain. He married Delfa Pearl Barzee on Sept. 24, 1930 in the Logan Utah Temple. After she died, he married Glendella Jane McNee in The Dalles, August 11, 1984. In the Hood River area, he began working at the Cascade Locks Mill in 1964, retiring after 11 years in 1975. He served as municipal judge for Cascade Locks from 1965 to 1969. He worked as the custodian at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in The Dalles for several years. He was a temple worker at the Seattle and Portland Temples for over 12 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived in Cascade Locks, Mosier and Wyeth before moving to The Dalles in 1974. In 1984 he moved to Odell until he went to Nampa to be closer to family in 1997. Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Clark and Lucy Jones, Coos Bay; Neil and Shirley Jones, Saratoga Springs, Utah; two daughters and sons in law, Ellen and Don Kohler, LaGrande; Cheryl and Jim Clausen, Nampa; daughter-in-law, Freidle Jones, Warden, Wash.; two brothers Lester H. Jones, St. Anthony, Idaho; William T. Jones, Idaho Falls, Idaho; two step children and more than 104 descendents. Besides his wives Delfa and Glendella, he was preceded in death by a son Melvin Lewis Jones, a brother Wayne C. Jones, and two sisters Verda Esther Jones Dobbins and Neva Jones. Visitation will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, and funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the LDS Church in Hood River. Vault interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery on Threemile Road in The Dalles. Anderson’s Tribute Center is in charge of local arrangements.
