He was born July 3, 1924, in Grand Island, Neb., to Emil and Martha (Nissen) Johnson. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and served in Iwo Jima as an aircraft mechanic. He attained the rank of corporal. He later worked for United Airlines and after 20 years retired in 1983. He married Christine Grover in Portland in 1959. She preceded him in death. Survivors include his son, Dale Glen Johnson, Klamath Falls; stepson Wayne Hall, New York; daughters, Joy Gabel, Tygh Valley and Valeri Johnson, Boulder Creek, Calif.; stepdaughters, Janice McKenzie, Gardnerville, Nev.; and Ashley Hall, Cornelius; a sister, Marilyn Leitner, California; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. No services have been announced at this time. Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home, Redmond Chapel, is in care of arrangement. Memorials may be made to the Redmond Senior Center, 325 NW Dogwood, Redmond, OR 97758.
