Johnson, 91, a resident of Clarinda, Iowa, and a former resident of Tygh Valley, died Feb. 15, 2005, at a health care cener in Clarinda. He was born Nov. 5, 1913, near Braddyville, Iowa, to Clyde A. Johnson and Grace E. (Lathrop) Johnson. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and served in Guadalcanal, Midway and Okinawa. He was united in marriage June 24, 1943, near Braddyville, to June R. Walter. He worked in a lumber mill from 1946-1964 in Klamath Falls, He worked as a government trapper with the Federal Fish and Wildlife Service from 1964-1981 for Wasco County. He also raised Chinchillas and Weimaraner pups. They lived at Tygh Valley and after retiring, he spent time fishing, gardening and tending his orchard. He also drove shuttle for the river guide. They moved from Oregon back to Clarinda in October 1996. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife, June Johnson, Clarinda; sons: Robert C. Johnson and wife, Lois, East Bernstadt, Ky.; William C. Johnson and wife, Maria, Palisade, Colo.; son, Daniel R. Johnson and wife Lillian, Winslow, Ariz.; daughter, Ruth Ann Welch and husband Gerard Welch, Corbett; three step grandchildren; two great grandsons; four step great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Merl Johnson; sister, Opal Clark; sister, Ruth Davison; sister, Lois Smith; grandson, Steven Charles Johnson. Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18, at Walker- Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with Pastor Kelly Walter officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the memorial service. Burial will be at Shearer Cemetery; Braddyville with military rites by American Legion Post 98 and V.F.W. Post 9230. Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa or to the Rockbrook Church, Belton, Mo. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
