Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 11:58 am The Dalles Chronicle, October 21, 2005 Donald Clinton Johnson, 85, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local hospital on Oct. 18, 2005. He was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Long Prairie, Minn., the oldest of four children to Herbert and Beatrice (Eggers) Johnson. He attended school in Long Prairie, Mich. He served a duty in the Army during World War II. After he came home, he worked his way to Oregon in 1952, working as a carpenter in construction ranging from working on the dams to home construction. He settled in The Dalles where he married Maxine A. Shipley in 1968. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports of all kinds, woodworking, and his hobby shop at home. He loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Eagles and a 50 year member of the Carpenter Union #306. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Maxine A. Johnson, The Dalles; his son Robert Black and his wife Nancy, Gig Harbor, Wash.; his two daughters, Barbara Moore and her husband Warren, Gladstone; and Sharon Rudy and her husband Rich, Pasco, Wash.; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; his two sisters, Charlotte Palm and her husband Harlo, Orlando, Fla.; and Lorraine Spake, Richmond, Va. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Evelyn. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at IOOF Cemetery, 18th Street & Cherry Heights Rd., The Dalles. Private cremation was held at Win-Quatt Crematory in The Dalles and arrangements were made by Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association, 7420 SW Bridgeport Rd., #200, Tigard, OR 97224-7790.
