     James Michael “Mike” Jensen, 51, a resident of The Dalles, died 
Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. He 
had walked in last year’s Relay For Life event on the survivors’ team and had 
hoped to attend this year.
     He was born March 2, 1953 in Portland to James R. and Elizabeth 
(McClements) Jensen and grew up there. Following his graduation from Reynolds 
High School in 1971 he joined the U.S. Army and served for several years 
before taking employment with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He worked for 
the railroad for nearly 26 years before taking a medical retirement, serving 
as an electrical drawbridge operator. 
     First arriving in The Dalles in 1980 he worked here for five years before 
being transferred to Portland, transferring back to The Dalles in 1997.
     He enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of The Dalles Fitness and 
Court Club. He also enjoyed playing basketball, gardening and fishing, and 
above all else spending time with his family.
     Survivors include his wife, Jodi, of the family home in The Dalles; his 
parents James and Elizabeth Jensen, Portland; daughters Sara Jensen; Portland; 
Bethany and Ashley Jensen, The Dalles, and his sister Kathleen Leibowitz, 
Mexico. 
     He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas, in 2001.
     Services in celebration of his life will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 
p.m. on Saturday, June 5, in the Fireside Room of The Dalles Civic Auditorium, 
with Greg Stone presiding. 
     Private family services of remembrance will accompany his interment at 
Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Memorial contributions may be made 
to Relay for Life, c/o Nikki Moleli, 700 Union Street, Room #203, The Dalles, 
OR 97058. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
