He was born Aug. 23, 1912 in Lucas, Wash. (near Goldendale), the fifth of six sons born to Adolphe and Ethel Mae (Goss) Jacroux. He grew up in Lucas and attended the Cedar Valley Grade School. In 1927, he moved to Goldendale and graduated from high school there in 1928. He married Nellie Mae Benson on April 9, 1939 in Prosser, Wash. They were married for 65 years. They moved to The Dalles in 1946 where he established an automotive business, “Modern Motors, Inc.” with partner Cliff Spencer. They sold Hudson, Kaiser, Edsel and Volkswagen cars. The business was sold and he retired in 1978. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Goldendale and The Dalles and the Elks in The Dalles. He served on the recreation commission for 12 years in The Dalles and was past president of that organization. He was a Boy Scoutmaster for five years, charter member of The Dalles High School Boosters Club and also served as a president. He was active with the Babe Ruth Association and was president for two years in The Dalles. He and his wife were avid trailer enthusiasts, traveling the Northwest. Their favorite stops were in Leavenworth, Wash., and Depoe Bay. He enjoyed gardening and took immaculate care of their home in The Dalles for 40 years. They moved to Dallas in 2002. He is survived by his son, Ken, and his wife, Becky Jacroux, Dallas; and grandchildren Nathan, Los Angeles; and Amber, San Diego; son Mike and his wife, Marcia Jacroux and grandsons Tad and Tom, all of Pullman. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 22, 2004. Private family services will be held. Memorials can be given to the Dallas Retirement Village, 377 N.W. Jasper St., Dallas, OR 97338. Bollman Funeral Home of Dallas is in charge of arrangements.
