     Donald “Don” Bernard Idema, 57, a resident of The Dalles, died at his 
home Tuesday, March 9, 2004.
     He was born May 3, 1946, in Boise, Idaho, the third of four children to 
Bernard and Doris (McFarland). He was raised in Canyonville, Myrtle Creek and 
Tygh Valley and then served in active duty in the U.S. Army from June 1964 
until June 1966.
     After the service, he settled in Tygh Valley and married Sylvia Marlene 
Brenden on June 10, 1968, in Winnemucca, Nev. He worked as a cat skidder for 
Cody Logging until 1977, then he started with Pellissier Trucking as a truck 
driver in Dallesport and worked for 18 years until he was injured in an 
accident and had to retire.
     He enjoyed his family, his work, restoring old cars and his pickup. 
     He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sylvia Idema; two daughters, 
Diana and her husband, Jerry Huskey; and April and her husband, Carlos Oriz 
Sr.; three grandchildren, Ryesha and Nedina Idema and Carlos Oriz Jr., all of 
The Dalles; one brother, Roger DeBoer, Yamhill; and one sister, Joyce 
McCreary, Tygh Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, 
Lynda.
     Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, March 13, at noon at 
the Three Mile Road Odd Fellows Cemetery, formerly known as Parklawn Cemetery, 
with Asa Jenson officiating. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-
quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of 
arrangements.
     Memorials may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle St., The 
Dalles, OR 97058.
