Wakley iwakley@msn.com and August 20, 2006, 1:25 am The Dalles Chronicle, June 2, 2006 John “Big John” Wesley Hutson, 69, a resident of Warrenton and a former resident of Arlington and The Dalles, died in Warrenton on May 31, 2006. He was born Aug. 2, 1936 in Willard, Wash., to Alice and Harold Hutson. His father died in 1945. The family lived in Brightwood and Hood River. His mother married Rudolph Steinke and they moved to the Steinke ranch outside Arlington in 1946. He attended school in Olex and Arlington. He married Lois West on July 16, 1957. He worked for Empire Machinery in Arlington. He served two years in the Army with time served in Panama. After the service, he worked for Stone Machinery in The Dalles and Walla Walla. He worked for one year on the Steinke Ranch before buying Bud’s Campground in 1975, which he operated until selling in 1988. He then worked for Hamlet Satellite and helped build homes in the Cullaby Lake area. He was an active member of the Gearhart Golf Course and Gearhart Men’s Golf Club, where he served as president for two years. Survivors include his wife, Lois J. Hutson, Warrenton; a son and daughter- in-law, Phillip J. and Kelly Hutson, Seaside; two grandchildren, Cody and Mckenzie Hutson, Seaside; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Lloyd, Laverne, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Russell-Locy, The Dalles; and Shirley Donovan, Boardman; a brother-in-law, Dewey West, Boardman; three uncles, Elwood and Leonard Hutson, both of Hood River, and Doug Flanders, Long Beach, Calif.; and an aunt, Esther Balsiger, Hood River; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and step aunts and uncles. Graveside services will be Monday, June 5, at 1 p.m. at Oceanview Cemetery in Warrenton. Visitation will be Saturday June 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Hughes-Ransom Cremation and Mortuaries in Seaside. Memorials may be made to the Seaside High School Boys Golf Team or the Lower Columbia Hospice, in care of Hughes-Ransom Cremation and Mortuaries, 230 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside, OR 97138.
