He was born the eldest son of Wayne Douglas Huskey and Helen Joyce Yerges in Clarkston, Wash. on Feb. 17, 1970. He grew up in Mosier, and attended and graduated from Wahtonka High School in 1988 in The Dalles. He was involved in many different activities, including his main love as catcher for the high school baseball team. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the US Army and started his military career in Germany for two years, returning to the U.S. to be stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. In 1990 he volunteered for and served in Desert Storm, the first Iraq War. He was part of the honor guard during his service, and was proud of serving his country. He received an honorable discharge as a specialist in 1992, settling in Texas for a few years. In 1994 he returned to Mosier, beginning college at Columbia Gorge Community College where he met the love of his life, Robyn Simpson. They continued their college education at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, making a home together and gathering a large group of friends while raising her four children. His interests and hobbies included broad sword and rapier fighting, scuba diving, role playing games, bow hunting, target shooting, golf, motorcycles, and dancing. He was also an aficionado of fine scotch and cigars. He is survived by his parents, Helen and Wayne Huskey; his brothers Jason Huskey and James Orlando; sisters Brenda Jallen and Sandy Shattuck; their spouses and children; soul mate, Robyn Simpson, and children Kimberly Bemiss, Rebekah Simpson, Carey Simpson, and granddaughter Madison. He is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, and Robyn’s first son, Sgt. Jacob M. Simpson, who died serving his country in Iraq in May of this year. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral and interment will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Omega Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, please call for viewing times. There will be a memorial gathering in Mosier at 1 p.m., Sunday Aug. 28 at the Mosier Grange Hall.
