The Dalles Chronicle, September 7, 2005
     Eileen Eleanor Hurley, 86, a former resident of The Dalles, died at St. 
Andrew’s Care Facility in Portland on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005.
     She was born in The Dalles on March 17, 1919, the third of four children 
to Henry and Mable (Last) Hurley. She was raised in The Dalles, graduating 
from St. Mary’s Academy in 1937.
     She moved to Portland after high school and received her bachelors degree 
at Marylhurst University. She worked as a soda jerk at Nob Hill Pharmacy in NW 
Portland, a traveler’s aide worker at the downtown Portland train depot at 
World War II’s end, and as a social worker for Boys and Girls Aid Society.     
She then moved to Hawaii to attend graduate school, receiving her masters of 
social work at the University of Hawaii. 
     Upon completion of her masters she returned to Portland where she was a 
social worker for Catholic Charities, placing children in adoption and foster 
care. 
     She also provided support and counseling for troubled adolescents in 
group homes. 
     She was a member of Cathedral Parish in Portland.
     She is survived by her brother-in-law, Ken; three nephews: Pat, Steve and 
Ron; six nieces: Tami, Debbie, Brenda, Sheila, Maureen and Cynthia, and her 
grandnieces, grandnephews and friends.
     Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. 
with Rev. Todd Unger officiating. 
     Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities Pregnancy Support and 
Adoption Program, 231 SE 12th Ave., Portland, OR 97214. 
     Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
