Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 10, 2006, 11:24 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, June 28, 1984 Ellen S. Humphrey, 75, a former resident of The Dalles died of cancer June 19, at Marylhurst Care Center. Mrs. Humphrey was born in Portland, and lived in The Dalles for 30 years before moving back to Portland in 1983. She had traveled exensively with her husband Bradford Humphrey, with the Corps of Engineers, who died earlier. Her family homesteaded in the Portland area in the 1840's, and established a home behind what is now Terwilliger Plaza, Terrace Heights, Hoffman Hills. She was executive secretary for the American Red Cross in The Dalles for 8 years, and a member of the Gray Ladies, a branch of the American Red Cross. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, The Dalles, for 2 years. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Humphrey, Beaverton; Brenda Reed, Walnut, Calif.; a son, Bradford Jr., Japan; a sister, Sister Patricia Stebinger, Marylhurst; a brother, Albert Stebinger, Los Angeles, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Brian and Alan Reed, and Bronwyn Humphrey. Memorial services were held at First Congregational Church in The Dalles, Tuesday, June 27. Rev. Karl Vercouteren officiated. The family suggests contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
