The Dalles Weekly Reminder, February 6, 1987
Ethel Louise Hughes, 86, died Jan. 28 at Columbia Basin Nursing Home.  She was 
a resident of The Dalles since 1928.

Mrs. Hughes was born March 30, 1906, in Tacoma, Wash., and married her 
husband, Ray, Nov. 25, 1926.  They opened the Hughes Feed and Grain business 
here in The Dalles in 1943, operating it until their retirement, and their son 
and daughter-in-law still operate the business.  She was a member of the 
Evangelical Church of North America and the Mill Creek Grange.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Hughes of The Dalles; a son, Larry of The 
Dalles; a daughter, Judith Hughes Burch of Branford, Conn.; seven 
grandchildren, Randy Hughes of The Dalles, Linda Remington and Julia Peterson 
of Wenatchee, Wash., Nancy Trapp of Portland, Steven R. Burch, Laurel Burch-
Minakan and Marcel B. Terry, all of Connecticut; 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 
officiated by the Rev. Jerry Emra, followed by burial at the Odd Fellows 
Cemetery in The Dalles.  Donations in her memory are suggested to the Columbia 
Basin Nursing Home Memorial Fund.
