The Dalles Chronicle, March 7, 2006
     Robert “Bob” K. Huber, 80, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on 
Wednesday, March 1, 2006, with his family at his side.
     He was born in Great Falls, Mont., on Dec. 22, 1925, to H. E. and Alice 
R. (Wosinek) Huber. He lived in Everett, Wash., before moving to The Dalles in 
1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II and the Korean 
War. After returning from World War II, he graduated with the class of 1945.  
He then worked for Pacific Northwest Bell, Sunset Motor and Pioneer Electric 
with his father, until taking over the store in 1973.
     He married Caroline Stiefel on June 27, 1948. He enjoyed airplanes, 
talking to other veterans and sharing war stories. Family, home and friends 
were important to him. He was a past member of the Elks Club and the Dalles 
Yacht Club.
     He is survived by his wife Caroline; his daughters, Melody Harmon and 
Marta Bell, both of The Dalles, and his son, John P. Huber, Woodbridge, Va.; 
four grand children, Andy Harmon and Michelle of Sterling, Alaska ; Corey 
Harmon, Kara Haskins and Troy and Karly Bell, all of The Dalles; six great-
grandchildren and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gretchen and Jim 
Barnhouse, The Dalles, and three nephews. He was affectionately known to his 
great-grandchildren as “Grandpa Hubie.” He was preceded in death by his 
parents.
     Private cremation was held at Win-Quatt Crematory in The Dalles with 
Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. At his request 
his ashes will be placed in the waters off of Camano Island, Wash.
