Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 31, 2006, 3:20 pm The Dalles Chronicle, September 26, 2006 Ordie Hoye, 88, a former resident of Moro, died on Aug. 26, 2006. He was born Feb. 8, 1918 in Inkster, N.D. He served in the U.S. Navy. He lived, taught and coached in Gervais for 13 years, in Sherman County for eight years, in Myrtle Point for two years and also in Willamina. He worked at the Willamina plywood mill until it closed. He moved to Willamina in 1967. His final teaching job was with the Willamina School District for three years until he retired. He received many awards in Willamina, the Willamina High School Service Award, First Citizen 1990, Kiwanis Service Award 1998, Willamina Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshal 1995. The Gervais Cougars’ football field, Hoye Field, is named after him and the Willamina High School track is also dedicated to him. His hobbies were sports and reading and he was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Ronde. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, Willamina; daughters, Carol Sather, Kent; and Connie Ericksen, Corbett;son, Greg Marvin, Moro; sisters, Adele Genow, Chicago; and JoAnn Moreland, Inkster; five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at the new Willamette High School Auditorium. Private burial was held at the Moro Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Willamina High School Track Fund.
