Howe, Northwest fruit industry veteran, died March 19, 2004 of cancer, in Florence. He was well known in the fruit industry. In a long career in the food business, he retired as vice president of marketing for Diamond Fruit Growers, Inc. in Hood River. During his career, he was chairman of the Oregon Bartlett Pear Commission twice, chairman of Northwest Horticultural Council’s Foreign Trade Committee, board member of Washington-Oregon Canning Pear Association and Pacific Coast Canned Pear Service, and President of Pacific Bartlett Growers, Inc. He served as president of The Oregon-Washington-California Pear Bureau, the Northwest Horticultural Council, and the Agribusiness Council of Oregon. Most recently he was public consultant on the Winter Pear Control Committee, the Northwest Fresh Bartlett Marketing Committee, and served as Ex- Officio of Pear Bureau Northwest until his recent resignation due to his illness. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Tamara and son-in-law Scott VanRas; daughter Deborah Beier; and granddaughter Amelia Beier; as well as a sister and brother.
