Iris T. Hore, 90, a long-time area resident , died at the local hospital on November 15, 2002. She was born on a family farm in Chelan, Washington, to Charles Grant and Velda Walker Grant on July 6, 1912. Her father moved the family to Dufur (Oregon) in 1918 where he ran a local restaurant and hotel. She spent her childhood in Dufur and graduated from high school there in 1930. After completing a practical nursing course in Gresham (Oregon), she worked at the Multnomah County Farm in Troutdale (Oregon) for several years. She moved to North Bonneville (Washington) to help her father run a restaurant during the building of the Bonneville Dam. Later they moved to Bingen (Washington) and ran the Mount Adams Inn where she met and married Jim Hore. She raised her family while living at Broughton Lumber Company at Hood, Washington. She worked at various jobs in the White Salmon area including Skyline Hospital and was an active member of local community organizations including the local chapter of the Rebekahs and was a Past President of the White Salmon Chapter of the Emblem Club. After the death of her husband in 1968, she moved to Reno (Nevada) and worked for Harrah's Hotel and Casino until she retired in 1977. She held part-time jobs in the Reno area until 1986 when she moved to Maupin (Oregon), to live with her son Charlie. Since 1991 she has lived in The Dalles at Nancy and David Cox's Adult Home. She was preceded in death by a son Jimmy in 1943, a son Thomas in 1967 and her husband Jim in 1968. She is survived by a son, Charlie Hore and wife Holly, Wishram (Washington); a son, Jerry Hore and wife Anna, Brea, California; grandson, Tom Hore and wife Stephanie, Salt Lake City (Utah); grandson, Tim Riley and wife Luella and great- granddaughter Barbara, Stratford, Oklahoma; grandson Tony Grant and wife Suzanne, Colorado; granddaughter Tanya Hore of Puyallup, Washington. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in White Salmon on Friday, November 29 at 9 a.m. with a coffee and cake reception in the church basement immediately afterwards.
