She was a lifelong resident of The Dalles area. She was born June 10, 1890 in Cross Hollows near Shaniko to settlers Gustav and Antonie Schmidt. She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in The Dalles, and past-matron of the Columbian Order of the Eastern Star No. 33. She was a charter member of the Gasper of White Shrine. She served on the advisory board for the Salvation Army for 30 years. She is survived by one son, Ernest F. Hinkle, Portland; one daughter, Mrs. George (Dorothy) Specht, The Dalles; four grandchildren, John Specht of Aloha, Mrs. Dan (Robin) Hyatt of Portland, Fred Hinkle of Monroe and Mrs. Robert (Marilee) Feigenbaum of Santa Anna, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Hanna, Albany, and Mrs. Karl (Lucille) Thomsen of The Dalles. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 21 at Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Delmer Anderson officiated. Burial followed at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church memorial fund. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
